Update Your Stairs With a Carpet Runner
Looking for a way to update your stairs? Consider adding a runner which will not only update the look but also make the stairs not as slippery and reduce the chance of someone slipping and falling. If your stairs are currently carpeted and you’re tired of keeping them vacuumed, then maybe you will want to rip up the carpet. If you only have bare wood underneath then you may have to add new stair treads and risers. There’s a link to a tutorial on doing that at the bottom.
If your house already had a full set of stairs that were carpeted over, then all you will need to do is rip up the carpeting and install a rug runner. The runner shown in this picture is indoor/outdoor. Runners soften the look and add more color. Adding a runner is the perfect way to update your home and they’re fairly easy to install. You will need a staple gun and double sided carpet tape helps hold the runner in place. Using an electric staple gun will make it even easier.
Consider whether you want to cover the entire stair width or leave some stair showing on either side, like shown here. Have fun and I know you’ll love your new look.
