Your cats will love this one! You may want to plant a lot of it because once they discover it, they may roll around in it or eat it. One interesting fact about catnip is that it has been found to be 10 times more effective than DEET. That’s a very good reason to plant catnip in your garden.

10. Marigolds

Marigolds are a natural choice for a flowering plant in your flower beds. Not only do they make an attractive border but they are a hardy plant and their scent is one that mosquitoes don’t like. They actually contain pyrethrum, which is an active ingredient in sprays sold to kill bugs in the yard.

11. Peppermint

As we saw with lemon balm, another member of the mint family, mints are a plant that bugs don’t like. I keep peppermint around because I love peppermint tea! An easy plant to grow, it’s one you’ll enjoy having around.

Consider these naturally repellent plants to help keep the bugs away, and keep you healthier by not having to use a chemical spray for protection.
