Spread the love

As the mosquitoes are making their way back for the summer, it’s time to think of ways to keep them at bay so we can enjoy the outdoors without having to resort to sprays with chemicals. There are quite a few plants that mosquitoes don’t like and when you know what they are, you can choose a few to keep in pots around your patio or plant in beds nearby. Most of these are decorative, and two are also used for cooking, so it’s nice to have them close by.

A few of these you are probably familiar with but some of them you may not realize have properties that repel those little biting buggers. Here are 11 ideas of plants you can plant to repel mosquitoes naturally.

1. Rosemary

Rosemary is most well known as a cooking spice, to flavor many different types of dishes. You may not have known that it is also a great mosquito repellent. I keep some near my front door to snip when I need for cooking and I think I’ll add even more now that I know they pull double duty.

2. Lavender

Lavender is probably most well known for it’s calming abilities. It’s also a beautiful flower that would be a nice addition to your landscape. It’s also a natural mosquito repellent, if you need another reason to plant some. Either plant them in a bed or keep in pots that you can move around as needed. You can also use the flowers to make sachets to bring their scent indoors.
